Omega is an icon in the world of timepieces. It has a long history in the watch making business that goes back more than 150 years. With a history that long, it’s not surprising that Omega is considered a watch making legend and pioneer and is responsible for many first’s in the world of timepieces. This company is responsible for designing and creating the only watch ever worn on the moon. The Omega Speedmaster Professional is probably the toughest watch ever made and is the only one to date to have survived NASA’s tests. It’s a chronograph watch that was used in the Apollo lunar programme. The Speedmaster is still flight-qualified by the NASA and is also the watch of choice by the Russian space agency. Omega watches are closely involved in sports and have been selected as the official timekeeper of 21 Olympic Games – No wonder Omega watches have so much credibility in the market of designer watches. The company is slotted to be the official timeskeeper of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Not only that, but Omega is the official timekeeper of the FINA World Bobsleigh Tour and has been since 2005. The company is also the first to develop a watch that provided the first 1/1000th of a second photo finish camera – A world first. Other innovations include timepieces with touch pads to time swimming competitions.
